Drunk and Disorderly Great Grandparents
I had to laugh out loud when I found this one. Obviously my 3rd great-Grandmother Mary Ann Phelps (nee McDermott) liked her drink. But after a particularly rowdy session she was arrested and put in the slammer.
Along comes my great-Grandfather William and tries to break her out of the station-house. Poor P.C. Chapman had his work cut out for him, trying to take Mary Ann in, as my great-Granduncle James and his mate Jeremiah also weighed in. So he was assaulted by no less than three people and yet law and order won the day and my offending relations ended up in Northleach prison for a month.
My husband's comment: Now we know where you come from and it's no big surprise!
PS: I have no connection to the bad-tempered P. C. Hall.
This is a great find. At least William was a gentleman
Very gallant of William to try to rescue his wife
